Yamantiev's Winery was founded in 1969 in the heart of the Rhodoppe Mountain in southern Bulgaria near the Greek border. It spent a short time abandoned after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989 before Yuliyan Yamantiev, a structural engineer, fell in love with the winery in 1996 while doing construction work in Ivaylovgrad. The Yamantiev family initially rented the winery in 1997 and then purchased it in 2000 with a focus on caring for the vines and modernising their new winery. Today the family has planted 70ha of their own vines, mainly focused on international varieties.
